The dictionary definition for Time Out: ‘Time for rest or recreation away from one’s usual work or studies’.
A Gently be Time Out has been described by one of our recent course participants, as a feeling of ‘calm and strength from the inside out’. So good, we might have to make it our new strap line - and so good, she is coming back to take the second course to develop that inner calm and strength even more.
First and foremost a Time Out is an opportunity to give to yourself. And if anyone is starting to suffer ingrained stabs of guilt or the ‘but aren’t I being selfish’ voice at this point, no, no, no! Think logically here - the more calm, kind, compassionate and in control you are as a person, the more the people around you benefit, and often the people around them too - it can spread like a never ending, glorious ripple.
Your aim might be to slow down and relax. Or to find the peace to step back and make a decision, or reflect on change you wish to bring into your life but don’t know how. Even if we haven’t reached the proactive stage yet, many of us relate to the feeling, the knowing somewhere inside of us that we have a need to relax, de-stress, perhaps eat better, move more. Yet we constantly put off doing anything about it, believing that we really haven’t got the time….
But it doesn’t have to be that way, for anyone. It’s so easy to think that you have to solve all your problems or bring about change all at once. The secret is to identify one small achievable step at a time, even if that step is only giving yourself the proper time to think, by taking the ‘Time Out’. By taking that step you are beginning to take control, and when you take control your brain begins to work so much better for you, developing new perspectives and making the way ahead, the next small step, so much easier.
In this way, lives change and improve - and you can relax and enjoy the process. Be encouraged by the words of our very own Bard, Shakespeare, ‘To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first’.
