I recently enjoyed a new exercise experience quite different to anything I’d tried to date, but a really enjoyable departure from mainstream exercise options. It is called Taoxstix, and I suspect you may not have heard of it yet.
Not being remotely versed in the areas of Tai Chi or Qi Gong, Taostix seemed to be an introduction to a blend of both of those at once, with the addition of a couple of padded stix thrown in!
It is not as random as it might sound though. Taught by John Read (www.taostix.com), who lives and teaches in Nottingham, John is a Tai Chi master who has studied Tai Chi, Qi Gong and many traditional Chinese health arts for over 30 years. He is gentle and unassuming, and extremely skilled in his craft.
It is John, through his extensive personal experience, who has created Taostix. A low impact, gentle cardiovascular workout for all abilities and age, it is fun, increases your energy levels, improves balance and coordination and you can take it at your own pace, either in a class or at home. The Taostix (which he makes himself) aid the flow of the soft, whole body movement. He has personally found a long-standing shoulder issue to have completely cleared up using this practise of movement, aided by the Taostix.
In John’s own words, ‘the beautiful and ancient methods of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Kali, along with recent developments in exercise methods, have been combined to create Taostix’.
John will be demonstrating and offering a chance to try Taostix at some of Gently be’s Time Out days coming up in Autumn 2016. Email us via our contact form if you’d like to find out more specifics.
